IN PERSON CLASSES


Our classes are held in our spacious commercial kitchens on the third floor of Santa Monica Place. We have no more than 16 students in class. Classes are designed to either work in pairs or individually.

Your health, safety and comfort and that of our staff are paramount to us and your experience.


We ask and require that you stay home if you have any cold or flu systems. Upon arrival to class, you will be greeted by our receptionist and a sanitizing dispenser and escorted to the hand sink to wash your hands, and then to your station, where your chef instructor will guide you through our sanitation procedures.

Please arrive on time in comfortable attire and closed-toed shoes.

All cookware and dinnerware is cleaned and sanitized before presented in the classroom kitchens. Kitchen are fully cleaned and sanitized between classes.

Note that we do not offer refunds but honor a 48-hour cancellation policy in which you may receive a credit to your account for the amount that you paid if you cancel your class more than 48 hours prior to the start of your class. This credit is only valid for use towards another class on our class calendar, not valid on private events or gift certificates

MASK POLICY

Masks will either be required or optional based on the county requirements at the time of your class. If masks are required on the date of your class, and you do not wish to wear a mask, no refunds will be given. We do honor a 48-hour cancellation policy in which you may receive a credit to your account for the amount that you paid if you cancel your class more than 48 hours prior to the start of your class. This credit is only valid for use towards another class on our class calendar, not valid on private events or gift certificates.

SERIES CLASSES

  • If a participant in one of our series courses (teen or adult) notifies us of a COVID positive test while the series is running, all participants (and parents of children under 18) will be notified via phone and email. It is up to the participants if they choose to continue in the course. If participants choose to not continue participation, please call us at (310) 656-8800 to discuss options for re-enrollment. Masking will be requested by participants and staff for the remainder of the series.

GENERAL HYGIENE RULES FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF

  • Wash your hands after using the toilet, before eating, and if you cough/sneeze into your hands. Wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water.
  • You can also use the sanitizers you’ll find around the school, but not in lieu of hand washing.
  • Cough/sneeze into your sleeve, preferably into your elbow. If you use a tissue, discard it properly and clean/sanitize your hands immediately.
  • Avoid touching your face, particularly eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands to prevent from getting infected.
  • If you find yourself coughing/sneezing on a regular basis, avoid close physical contact with your coworkers and take extra precautionary measures (such as requesting sick leave).

Please note that we do not offer refunds for classes purchased, but honor a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel your class before 48 hours, you will receive a class credit for the amount you paid in your account. We are a reservation-based school, and our classes require purchasing of ingredients and adequate staffing ahead of time, which is based on class attendance.

If you sign up for a class and the class is cancelled due to government regulations, you will receive an account credit in the full amount of the class to be used towards any future online or in person class. We will not be issuing refunds for any cancelled classes.

We cannot honor gift certificates, vouchers, or discount codes once enrolled in the class.  Class credit are not valid for gift certificates, events or in-store merchandise.

Gift Certificates are not valid for private events or in store merchandise.

Our Gift Certificates can be purchased in any amount and do not expire. Each certificate has a redemption code on the front which can be redeemed on our calendar. Gift certificates can be purchased and delivered online or you can have them sent by mail to your recipient and can also be purchased over the phone. Our cooking and baking classes are 3 hours long and focus on learning classic techniques in a warm and inviting kitchen. We offer some 4 to 6 hour workshops and series. Please visit our Class Calendar for our complete schedule.

All classes are “hands-on”, unless otherwise stated.  In our Series Courses, each student works individually.  In most all other classes, students are paired up with typically one other student.

We are located in downtown Santa Monica, CA on the 3rd floor of the Santa Monica Place Shopping Center at the end of Third Street Promenade, across from the Cayton Children’s Museum.

The Santa Monica Place Shopping Center has 2 Parking Garages. Parking Garage 7 and 8 are run by the City of Santa Monica, so we aren’t able to validate. You can either enter Parking Garage 7 on Broadway & 3rd or and Parking Garage 8 off Colorado.

All you need to bring is your appetite! Please wear closed-toed shoes for safety and avoid wearing perfume. We encourage you to bring your a container or two with you to class in case you have any extras.

We also sell a variety of sizes of reusable containers you may purchase in our shop. Each student gets 10% off of our shop the day of their class.  All students over 21 years of age may bring their own beer or wine.  

Yes! We specialize in Private Parties. You can celebrate a birthday for an adult or child, or have your next team-building event at The Gourmandise School. Just contact [email protected].

Yes! We hand you a printout of recipes for you in class and have pens ready for you to follow along and take notes. You will also receive the recipes via email after class.

We offer 1 – 2 Parent & Child classes per month for parents with children ages 6 – 11. Parents and children will work in pairs – 1 adult per 1 child required.

Most of our classes are 3 hours long. Some of our workshops or specialty classes may last 4 or 6 hours. Our Series Courses are also usually about 3 hours, once a week for 4, 8 or 10 weeks.

If you have a food allergy, please notify the school when you book your class by emailing the Receptionist ([email protected]) and making a note in your booking. The Gourmandise School classes use common foods and ingredients in our classes including shellfish, seafood, fruits and vegetables, nuts, meats, spices, wheat flours, etc. – not all ingredients will be listed in the course description. When a student makes us aware that they have an allergy, we will make the instructor and kitchen staff aware and modify the ingredients for the individual. We are unable to remove that specific ingredient relating to one student’s allergy from the class entirely.

For Private Parties, we will remove any ingredients or foods for the class or event upon request.

The Gourmandise School kitchen does contain nuts.
