DIY Spices: How to make Za’atar
Stop! Don’t check if za’atar is available on Amazon before you browse your spice cabinet; you might just have the ingredients for this Middle Eastern condiment to make the mix yourself. The blend is fantastic rubbed on meats, mixed in with yogurt (or, more traditionally, labneh) or spread on bread with olive oil. This recipe will yield you about 1/3 cup of the blend; store it in a jar in your spice cabinet. If you’re looking for a finer blend, crush the ingredients with a mortar and pestle or in a spice grinder.
