Sweeten your mama up with this grown-up lemonade recipe! Pucker up, it's time to rethink how lemonade is made and take a few tips from bartending to sweeten the pitcher! We love hosting lemonade bars during our kid's birthday parties here at the school, and we start by teaching the simplest ratio – simple syrup!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cup Fresh-Squeezes Lemon Juice We love using Meyer lemons from the farmers market.
  • 1 Bunch Raspberries
  • Peel from a lemon
  • 1 Bunch Mint

Instructions

  • To make the Simple Syrup, take 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar and bring them to a simmer in a medium pot until the sugar dissolves. Then let this cool down to room temperature.
  • Once the syrup cools down, juice your favorite lemons. We love using Meyer lemons from the farmers market; these hybrids of lemons and oranges are naturally sweeter and require less of the syrup.
  • If you're serving 4 thirsty lemonade lovers, you'll need 1 cup of lemon juice. Place the juice in a pitcher and add 1 cup of water.
  • Add 3 Tbsps of the simple syrup, taste and adjust until you get to the sweetness you like. Don't be afraid to make it a tad bit sweet and tart – because you're going to top it off with some ice.
  • Store the rest of the syrup in the fridge for weeks.
  • Our favorite part comes next – give everyone a glass and set out mint, raspberries, lemon peel – whatever you've got in the fridge. Have your favorite people place these extras in their glass.
  • Top with lemonade and enjoy!
