Frequently Asked Questions...
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
Cancellations & Transfers: We purchase and prepare fresh ingredients for every student, so we cannot offer refunds; no exceptions. However, we are happy to provide a full Class Credit if you cancel at least 48 hours before your class.
Can’t make it last minute? We understand things happen. While we cannot issue credits for cancellations made less than 48 hours before class, including for illness or schedule conflicts, you may transfer your spot to a guest. Simply call or email us with your guest’s name before class. Your guest must meet the minimum age requirement for the class.
WHAT IS THE AGE REQUIREMENT FOR CLASSES & SERIES COURSES?
Individuals aged 16 and older can attend classes and Series Courses independently. Participants aged 13 to 15 may attend classes if accompanied by a paying adult (aged 18 or older); one adult is required per minor. This policy ensures a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
PLEASE NOTE: This policy does NOT apply to “Date Night” Courses. “Date Night” Course participants must be 16 or older.
WHAT IS THE CLASS FORMAT?
Our cooking and baking classes are typically 3 hours long (2.5 hours for kids’ classes) and focus on classic techniques in a warm, inviting kitchen. We offer additional workshops and series that can last anywhere from 4-8 hours depending on the class.
All classes are “hands-on” unless otherwise stated. In most of our Series Courses, each student works individually. In most of our other classes, students are paired with one other student.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
We are located at the end of Third Street Promenade in downtown Santa Monica. The Gourmandise School is on the 3rd floor of the Santa Monica Place Shopping Center, across from the Cayton Children’s Museum and The Cheesecake Factory.
WHERE DO I PARK?
The Santa Monica Place Shopping Center has two Parking Garages. The City of Santa Monica runs Parking Garages 7 and 8, so we cannot validate parking. You can enter either Parking Garage 7 at Broadway & 3rd or Parking Garage 8 off Colorado.
WHAT DO I BRING TO CLASS?
All you need to bring is your appetite! Please wear closed-toed shoes for safety and avoid wearing perfume. We ask students with long hair to please wear it up in class. We have containers of new hair ties if you need one.
In our efforts to be sustainable, we encourage you to bring your own to-go containers for leftovers and your baked goods.
CAN I BRING A GROUP OF PEOPLE?
Yes! We specialize in Private Parties. You can celebrate a birthday for an adult or a child, or have your next team-building event at The Gourmandise School. Just contact our Event Coordinator for more information. You can also check out our Private Events page to see pricing and view the different menus.
DO I GET TO KEEP THE RECIPES?
Yes! We hand out printed recipes in class, and we have pens ready so you can follow along and take notes. You will also receive the recipes via email after class.
DO STUDENTS GET ANY SPECIAL DISCOUNTS?
The Gourmandise School loves its students! On the day of your class, students receive 10% off any item in our Shop.
We also have Exclusive Student Discounts from our generous partners.
DO PARENTS ATTEND CLASSES WITH THEIR CHILD?
We offer Parent & Child classes almost every weekend for parents of children ages 6–12. Parents and children work in pairs (1 adult per 1 child required).
HOW LONG ARE YOUR CLASSES?
Most of our classes are 3 hours long, but a few workshops or specialty classes may last 4 to 8 hours. Our Series Courses are usually 3 to 4 hours long and meet once a week for 4 to 10 weeks. Parent & Child Classes and Kitchen Confidence Classes are 2.5 hours.
HOW DO YOU HANDLE FOOD ALLERGIES?
If you have a food allergy, please note it in your booking and notify the school when you book your class by emailing the Receptionist. The Gourmandise School classes use common foods and ingredients, including shellfish, seafood, fruits and vegetables, nuts, meats, spices, and wheat flour. Not all ingredients will be listed in the course description. When a student informs us of an allergy, we will notify the instructor and kitchen staff and modify the ingredients for the individual to the best of our ability. Certain classes cannot accommodate certain allergies, and we cannot remove a specific ingredient from a class for one student’s allergy. For Private Parties, we will remove any ingredients or foods from the class or event upon request. The Gourmandise School kitchen does contain nuts.
